Steering column issues .

Post by hornsco »

My motor and tranny have been rebuilt . The bushings have been replaced and linkage is in good shape . Is it a common problem for the steering column to go bad ? Which is the best remedy, rebuild ,factory upgrade or after market ?

What column Automatic, 3 Speed on tree, 4 speed on floor. Power or Armstrong steering. First find out what's wrong most likely lower bearing. The only one I haven't had experience with is three on tree. Very easy to restore. Link http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =5&t=72274

I've rebuilt my former 3 on the tree, too, it was pretty much the same process as the auto column. Rebuilding is cheap and not that difficult. When you say the "column went bad" what symptoms are you having? The most common problem is the lower column bearing wearing out. Next would be the rag joint.
