I am going to reinstall the pitman arm on the Saginaw box. I was able to line up the spines and get the arm started. Then it dawned on me that I may have it on wrong.
I know I have it right side up, but I didn't know if it had to be put on a certain way when reassembling.
Other than running the risk of putting the arm upside down, should I be aware of anything else?
Any help clarifying reassembly would be appreciated.

Re: Reinstalling Pitman Arm Question
The arm should be splined AND tapered. So it should only go on one way.

Re: Reinstalling Pitman Arm Question
Thanks. I guess what I am asking is if I get the arm on, will it be set up to turn to the left and right correctly.
I had it going on in the right direction and then turned it 180 degrees and it started going on as well.
I don't want to get everything on and the steering only turn left or right so far and stop.

Re: Reinstalling Pitman Arm Question
I mounted the box first and put the pitman arm on with the wheels centered and everything was fine.

Re: Reinstalling Pitman Arm Question
Thank you. I will mount the box first then. I want to find the center first so that I will have equal turns when arm in in place.Canonman67 wrote:I mounted the box first and put the pitman arm on with the wheels centered and everything was fine.

Re: Reinstalling Pitman Arm Question
I forgot I had started this thread about the Pitman arm. I'm having trouble getting the arm to tighten up the splines all the way. Can someone confirm by the pictures that I have the arm started correctly? I feel like I do.
Here is that topic.

Re: Reinstalling Pitman Arm Question
If I remember right it has a blind spline and will only go on in one spot.
