Power Steering Conversion for my '68 F-100 4X4
Hi Everybody....This site was referred to me by my Son (27 yrs old, '76 F-150) and I'm happy to say that this site is amazing! I'm the new guy and have a '68 F-100 and plan to do various upgrades over time to improve drivability and overall comfort. I've had this truck since 1978 and to say it's a member of the family is an understatement. My first upgrade is to hopefully convert this beast to power steering. In addition to a '76 disc brake front end I'm planning to install, I'm interested in any and all comments on P/S upgrades. I'm open to all ideas as we'll eventually be removing the front clip anyway, so access and hard to get-to areas won't be daunting. Any suggestions and help is welcome!!!

You didn't mention what engine you have that you'll be adding the PS to.
My truck ('69 F-100 Ranger short bed, 240, C-4) has been down for the past several weeks while I've been adding front discs, Saginaw PS gear box, Ford C-2 PS pump/brackets and a tilt steering column.

Sorry about that. Running a 390 with NP435 and soon to be upgrading to NP205, but that's another story.

You can use a "76-"79 F150 4X4 steering box if you have some fabricating skills.
The trick is getting the retaining plate inside the frame and , there needs to be a slight relief for the pitman arm clearance.
If you have the frame piece from the donor truck it helps.
Get the tierods and pitman arm and diagonal arm from a "78-"79 they are designed better.
You'll have to fab the shaft from the column to the gear box.

Or you can get a kit: http://www.benchworksteering.com/F100conversion.htm
The kit above is a reversed steering gear. It mounts in the same place as the manual box.
2x on the 78-79 drag link & tie rods.
