C-4 transmission cooling lines

Post by Mikeincool »

I am a new owner of a 1967 F100 SWB. After using information from this great website, I discovered my truck was born with a different motor and transmission than it has now. It began as a 352 standard and now looks like it has a 302 with a C-4. My question is this: someone has cut my transmission cooling lines and connected the pieces with what looks like rubber fuel lines. Do I replace them with new lines or is this no big deal? And if I replace them, where do you find them.

Your local parts house has sections of steel line that can be bent and installed just like the original lines.

Rubber hose is a standard repair for stuck or rounded off nuts on the lines. They must be kept leak free though.

Mine on my '74 Dodge Dart broke when I replaced the radiator. I cut 'em off and replaced them with hose I had made at a local Parker Hose Store. Cut the lines and added compression fittings to JIC connectors and mating connectors on the radiator. Hoses have swivels on one end to make installation a breeze.

At minimum, if you're keeping it the way it is for now, the rubber hoses need to be rated for transmission fluid and not fuel.

66 T-bird had short rubber hoses connecting the cooling tank to steel lines.

The hoses I had made are a bit overkill but were the smallest rating they had in stock. 3000 psi hydraulic high pressure hose with zinc plated steel fittings.

Thanks for the input. I am looking for a donor vehicle, but I will repair with tubing from my local parts store.
