lightning wheels

Post by balcom »

I'm sorry if this has been posted but i found some replica lightning wheels that i am interested in. They are 20 inch tall and 9 inch wide. The backspacing is +8? I'm not sure what all this means. I doubt they would fit on my stock suspensioned 1971. Anyone with experience please help me out. I have been doing a frame off restoration for the past 4 years and am ready to get on the road. Thanks in advance for input. I am unsure how to post pics. because they are too big, but im still trying.

those wheels will take a 20 inch tire that is up to 9 inches thick. the backspacing is the amount of distance the wheel is center hub to the backside of the rim. backspacing can be used to determine if the wheel will set inside or outside of the fender. it gives you the tire placement inward or outward to the truck.

bolt pattern is wrong. 5x135mm. ours are 5x137.5 or 5x5.5. you can have the wheels redrilled to fit our pattern. it has been done before. the gen 1 lightning wheels are a direct bolt on though.

I found an aftermarket manufacturer that makes the gen II lightning wheels in the 5X5.5 inch bolt pattern. how wide are the wheels you have on your truck?

who is the manufacturer? I'd be interested in gen II lighting wheels that have our lug pattern.

I don't know if they actually make the wheel or if they're just a distributor but i found them through arrow tire and wheel. http://www.arrowtireandwheel.com/produc ... ar=&id=771. I hope that works.

the gen 1 wheels are 8" wide. i didn't measure backspacing or anything i just put them on. i think the gen 2 wheels have more b/s though. i'm not sure. when you see gen 2 wheels on a gen 1 they sit farther "in" than the stock gen 1 wheels so i imagine that they have more positve offset.

no, they changed the bolt pattern in 96. you still have the 5.5 bolt pattern.

the tires in the picture are 275/60-17's. good year eagle gt 2 s. they are massive, you need power steering to parallel park with them. lol

Hi everyone, stumbled across this thread trying to sort through wheel options for my 69 ranger- front discs, stock height. Id love a set of gen 2 lightning wheels- but at this point im trying to find anything 18 inches-20 in a nice looking mag that will fit. anyone have a setup that works? I may do the DJM 4/5 kit shortly, but for now if i cant find any 5 on 5.5 wheels has anyone found a set of wheels with the right backspacing to work with a set ofadapters? I think most adapters tend to be about an inch thick. any help would be greatly appreciated. just searching "wheels" comes up with a lot to sort through

Dodge truck 20" are 5x5.5
Also I've heard people are drilling the Lightning wheels a little larger so they fit a 5x5.5, you'd have to google that.
