What size tires.

Post by zoomer »

I bought a set of wheels for my 71. The fronts are 15x7 and rear are 15x10s... they are OEM style rims with hub caps and trim rings. They are gonna look great on my rat rod scheme. What is a good matched set (height wise) tires? I was thinking 295/50/15 rear and 195/75/15 fronts. Any ideas?

295/50-15s spec out to 26.61 inches. I think 195/75s will be a touch too narrow for 15x7s.... 215/70s or 245/60s would be a better match.

I hope your rig is lowered cuz 295/50s will show ALOT of wheel gap... I think a better option are 275/60-15s.

I don't think a 70 is gonna fit a 10" rim.

195/75/15 on the front will look horrible. That is dang near a rubber band tire. 235/75/15 is closest to a stock tire size. They are tall and skinny which would look better in the front IMO.

thanks sarge, thats a super helpful pair of pictures. your truck looks great with the black wheel on white combo, exactly the look i'm going for.

it would be cool to get a whole page of different tire/wheel/backspacing/lift photos for comparison... i can usually 'visualize' changes i want to make, but for some reason wheel and tire size eludes me.

are the wheels in the second photo aftermarket? same backspacing? They almost look like they are deeper but it might just be wider tires.

I don't think a 70 is gonna fit a 10" rim.

You would be surprised how big a 285/70/15 really is...It is comparable to a 31-10.50-15

When comparing tires the second set of numbers is the side wall height

xxx/70/15 is taller than a xxx/60/15 which in turn is taller than a a xxx/50/15

The first set of numbers is the width of the tire

I don't have any pics of them on my truck but I run 15x10's and 15x7's on my 72 f100. Both sets of wheels have standard backspacing and I run a 275/60/15 on the rear and a 225/70/15 on the font. Never had any issues with rubbing. Plus the tire's are close to the factory height. No more wheels gap than I had previously.
