Steering Column Bearing

Post by Ten4321 »

How do you remove the bearing at the lower end of the steering column? Mine is bad and is making noise. Is there any way to get the bearing out?

Thanks

Unfortunately, it's hard to get to with the column installed. You have to either tap it out from inside the column with a long rod/pipe or pull it out from the bottom with something like a flywheel pilot bearing puller. It's much easier to pull the steering column totally out and then tackle it.

I already have the column out. I'm in the process of converting to power steering and I didn't want to put the column back in with a squeaky bearing.

Thanks for the info

Do you have a 2wd or 4 wd ? I just did a column on my step dad's hi boy and the bearings popped right out.
The 2wd shouldn't be much different.
