Nice 68 Merc...

Post by mk »

Thought you guys might like to see pics of this really nice unrestored
Merc that surfaced recently at a local Ford dealer. It was dug out of
a garage somewhere in Saskatchewan in which it had apparently spent
most of it's life sheltered from the sun.

Not sure how many pics I'm allowed to post but here's some more :D

The serial number is F10BCD13xxx. It is an Oakville built truck but an interesting thing I've noticed in researching the 67 and 68 Mercs is that a large number of them here in western Canada were actually built in the San Jose plant.

Lemme try this again....I tried to post earlier but it froze up somewhere....

Beautiful Truck!!! Thanks for posting the pics....I wonder how old those aftermarket chrome add-ons are....They actually give a little added personality to the truck....I noticed the horn ring says "Ford" :hmm: ....

BTW,how many miles are on it,Mike?

You know, Joe, I was so fascinated with the details I forgot to get the
mileage  I phoned the former owner though and he said it was right around the 90 k mark. He let me go through it when I was taking the pics to see if the build sheet was still there but no luck. If anyone has an original 67-8 Merc build sheet, I'd sure appreciate a copy. If memory serves, there should be an X on line E, box 18 to indicate a Mercury truck. I sure wouldn't have minded bringing it home but I dinna ha' the coin
Looks like I missed noting a couple of other options like the extra tank and roof lights. The note about the chrome doodads by the rear reflectors
should say they have 'stylemaster' cast into them.

Well,Mike,if you do come up with da coin to buy that Merc,I'll buy those chrome doo-dads off of you....I'll find something to put 'em on 8)

What else is interesting is that you don't see too many trucks with the deluxe two-tone paint package and a painted grill...

He was asking about 8g US for it, Keith. I don't know what he actually got for it. Debateable whether a guy would be better off getting a good one like that or restore what he's got.
The seat frame is the first place I usually look for those sheets. Just found one last week in the seat back of a 71 F250 Sport Custom at the wrecker that was bought new in Choteau, Montana. Has anyone ever found one under the floor mat?
Regarding the Ford horn piece, Mercs only had their own interior trim until the late fifties and had only different exterior nameplates through the sixties.

I have a 68 Mercury 250. My steering wheel is completely different.Mine has the 3 spokes with the horn ring and this one has the button. Were both offered or is one incorrect?

The baseline trucks got the button as standard equipment, the upper trim levels got the ring. Of course, either were optional and are interchangeable.
