dear cdherman and previous readers for taking time to read and answer my questions.I slowly understand better my truck. My purpose is not to rebuilt it as original but only to be able to drive it daily just for the pleasure to cruise in an Americain vehicule.Don't forget that here,Americain cars are very few and not so easy to maintain. If you go to a Ford dealer,he only knows, escorts, fiesta, mondeo, which are small european cars.
My carb problem seems to come from the accelerator pump which does not spit any petrol when i accelerate and i was thinking about faulty diaphragm or no depression on the carb.
the pictures could also help to "clean"the inside with all the pipes which go nowhere.
Last, which carb would you provide to replace this Zenith 42W which is well tired and worned out

I would use a Carter model YF carburetor, They have some on our E-bay motors.
If you want to clean up the extra hoses, you really only need one vacuum hose to the distributor. The PCV system is needed one hose from the intake manifold to the positive crankcase valve, in the valve cover. then 1 hose from the valve cover to the air filter assembly.
You can replace the vacuum tree in the manifold with a pipe plug.

Agree that a manual choke carter YF is the best solution. They are user friendly and can be rebuilt with good sucess (though not always). I'd recomend getting one off ebay that looks good and rebuilding it. Parts houses sell "remanufactured" carbs for $150 and up, but I think you are as likely to get a good running carb by getting one for $30-$50 off ebay and rebuilding it yourself.

You'll have to find an ebay seller that is willing to ship to France. Or perhaps buy it on ebay and ship to someone friendly here and that person could weigh and pack it and send to France. I assume you have access to paypal as well. Makes international payments pretty painless.

I think I see a power brake booster in the background of the one photo, so don't forget about that hose as well. But Wes is right -- there are few hoses you really need on there.

He might also have one of those feedback distributors that has 2 vaccum hookups -- of that's the case, only the middle one is needed.

What do they do to you in France regarding inspections and emessions testing?

Reading your answers I"ll definitely try to find a Carter carb.I've no difficulties with the emmissions tests because I registered this truck as a 1965 truck which can pollue as much as it can,the laws in france are not retro activs.Nobody in Paris can date this car neither police nor controlers even their computers .This car is not in the memory and they control it as a Ford Transit.the distributor as 1 vacuum start. But do you know what are the 2 vacuum starts under the carb which are hosed one into the other?

Not knowing a zenith carb at all, this is just a guess. But perhaps the previous owner needed to plug up a couple of spare vacuum ports and to do it he just put a piece of hose between the two.

I know my carter has two vacuum nipples ("starts" I am guessing is what you mean) On my carter YF carbs, one of the nipples is manifold vacuum and the other is ported vaccum. Hooking them together would possible cause a slightly rough idle. Hard to tell.

Where is the vacuum to the distributor hooked up? To the intake manifold?
