proportioning valve location
I'd like to get some input on where people have located thier proportioning valve. Can you located it in different positions down near the steering box area? Thanks all

re: proportioning valve location
I've seen them mounted on the crossmember that the beams mount to also. Right beside the steering box. Not sure where I'll mount mine when I do the disc swap.

re: proportioning valve location
On '73-'77½ 2WD trucks, the disc-brake proportioning valve is located on a bracket on top of the steering box, directly under the master cylinder. On late-'77 thru '79 it's located on the back of the main front crossmember on the left side.
When building a whole new brake system, it's recommended that you locate the valve as close to the master cylinder as possible, for best results.

re: proportioning valve location
I found a '73 with discs that had the proportioning valve in the same spot as my '69 f100 with drums. It fit perfectly! I have yet to found another one like it.

re: proportioning valve location
I found a 74 w/factory discs and as mentioned above, the factory proportioning valve was on the frame exactly where the distribution lock was stock on my 68. I bolted the prop valve in the same spot, but if I had known it was supposed to make things work better, I would suppose I would have located it below the master on a bracket as mentioned, would be easy to do.

re: proportioning valve location
When I changed my 66 to power disc I put the prop valve up on the fender well, just below master cylinder. I had to remake the front lines and use a union on the rear brake lines but it is very simple to do. It will make it very simple to change if that is ever necessary and I can inspect for leaks without crawling under the truck. I saw several in the local u pull it with factory brackets to mount it off the master cylinder bolts but didnt wont to have to flex lines out of way if I had to change master or booster
