Auto tranny not dropping into gear

Post by greenbank »

When my tranny is cold, it needs some revs to actually engage. This only lasts a couple of minutes, and then all seems well. Doesn't make any odd noises.

So...Start it, put it into reverse, needs some revs to drop in. If you let off the gas backing up, it drops out again. Put it in drive, same thing. End of driveway, same thing. Ditto the first stop sign. By the next stop everything is fine.

Adjustment? Fluid? I know nothing of this tranny, as I haven't had the truck long enough yet to get around to servicing it.

Which tranny do you have?

Yeah, if the fluid is really low, the internal hydraulic circuits in the tranny won't have enough pressure to activate the shift clutches.
