I forgot to mention the shock part of the job. With out doing that, I don't think you could get the spring out.

Changing the front springs will be more dangerous using a spring compressor. You don't need one. Once you let the front I-beam hang down and un-hook the shock all of the tension is out of the spring.

I agree. There are certain types of vehicles where using a spring compressor is mandatory. Our trucks is not included in that list. No compressor is needed nor advised.
