Seat question

Post by dbarker »

I know, its the age old question... i searched for a few hours, didnt find my answer.

In the seat swap tutorial, I found this: http://www.fordification.com/images/FAQ ... 0XLT01.jpg

Its shown in a couple of 95-96 trucks, both single and extended cabs. Has anyone actually installed this seat? If so, can you post a pic of it installed?

I want/need cupholders and have a floor shift so theres not much of a choice. I also want a nice new seat so this makes it easy. Im not worried about the tank showing when the armrest is down. When its up it should set at normal height and cover the tank.

Im guessing, its not going to just bolt to my factory tracks, I may be wrong... but it looks like the middle section is individual from the rest of the seat.

Thanks everyone!

I had one in my '80 model . the center seat is actually bolted to the aftermarket seat frame and the left and right seats move independently on that . Most of the aftermarket builders have put a lot of effort into engineering and offer installation kits for most applications, and probably show an application for our generation . When the '80 model got totaled I ironically ended up with my first bump (eons before fordification) I entertained the thought of using the seat in the '72 . At that point in time the "Ford" installation kit was the same for "all years". the seat would have sat way high for my liking due to the thickness of the bottom bench. But knowing what I know now thanks to "fordification" score the seat , strip everything down to the fabbed frame for the aftermarket seat and adapt a factory seat of seats for our generation cabs , bolting them as directly to the aftermarket seat frame as possible and I belive the height will come out useable. What make the a/m seat profile higher I believe is both outer seats are on independent sliders. just my 2 cents.

After typing all this crap I looked back at the pic again . That looks factory and by removing the the oem tracks for the cab year that seat came from and adapting seat tracks for our cabs the seat will bolt right.
Hopefully as I type this I have the pics save showing the comparision side by side and will attach them.

Brackets side by side with the area that is different noted

a better shot showing them on the seat

The red square shows how the bolt is made to our tracks .The blue square shows where the bolt made to the 80-90 something seat frame comes thur the track. removing the bolt from the seat frame and bore the hole that is in the frame out a little our tracks bolt right to the newer seat . no measuring or fabricating required
Sorry so long, but tutorial writer I ain't

Not sure if this is the case but I have seen seats in other models that have buckets that move independently but are mounted on one frame that bolts to the cab.

Thanks, I was trying to think of how you could even bolt down that middle seat, even in the new trucks. In my head i was saying it had to just be a single seat frame.

Im really hoping it is, That seat will make life much better in the ole girl.
