the system has a pedal three cables a spring and a bracket if you had no aux fuel tank. plus the extension cables and bracket. the most common problems of them are the srpings missing or broken either on the pedal assembly or under the truck. stuck or broken cables could also be the next possibilty. the third most likely thing to be bad would be the adjustment of the rear brake shoes.

Here are a few photos. I'm thinking that real clean one must have come from another member!

good luck on trying to use the adjustment screw, most of the time they are very rusted or corroded and will break.
also off the topic, Keith or Greg will delete the e-mail address you posted, not sure why they do it but they do.

you can ford a river or stream and get to the other side, if you dodge it you will not, and if you drive a chevy to the levee it will run dry and the music will die.

What do you mean by "out"? Do you mean the parts are completely missing or that it's simply not working?worldsmysterie wrote:i have a 67 f100 and the emergency brake system is completely out.

re: parking brake HELP
Well then, sounds like it's time to hit the local junkyard to sound rounding up the missing pieces. The pictures posted above show the various pieces of the setup.
There should be a cable that extends from the pedal back to about halfway under the box on the frame, where it attaches to an equalizer. From that equalizer there are two cables that extend back to each rear brake.
I'll include a couple pictures too, in addition to those already posted, that'll help you figure out what you need.
Here's a picture of the equalizer:

The cable from the pedal comes back to this equalizer and hooks into it at the yellow arrow. (The front cable isn't installed in this picture.) You can see the two cables that extend back from the equalizer to each rear brake. Also not shown in this picture is a long return spring, that extends from the equalizer back to the frame crossmember (visible in the next picture).
If your truck is a LWB, there will be two rear cable extensions between the rear cables and the equalizer:

Each of the rear cables go into the back of the rear brake backing plate and connect to one of the brake shoes.
I know there are members here with parts trucks, so if your local junkyard doesn't have any of these trucks, you can probably post a request in the Parts Wanted forum with what you need...I'm sure someone will be able to help you out.

re: parking brake HELP
not trying to steal thread, but do local parts houses carry the long spring? I was wondering why my emergency brake would release and I'd have to work with the thing to get it fully releases, this spring missing on mine.
