Floor Shift

Post by jor »

I'm going to switch my 67's T-18 for a C-6 automatic. Instead of replacing my steering column, I think I'll go with a floor shift. Recommendations? Thanks.

I have a C6 in mine and the floor shifter crowds my right leg pretty hard. If I ever get around to it I'd put an L in it to center it a bit. Not a huge deal but I don't have the kickdown rod installed yet so i manually shift 1-3-1 to be safe.

To get a better idea the shifter comes almost through the floor pan on the drivers side rather than the tranny hump. I think the PO just found what ever shifter he could and slapped it on, its only about 16" long. I think it could easily be centered and have a console built around it. Might have to make the linkage to center it though, I am not sure what is out there for such a project.

Check these out for starters from summit. I ran the car version of the mega shifter for years with no problems. I loved it. Installation is a breeze.

And for more of a 4 speed look try this one...

Tynall,
Did you get one of the Summit models that GT is suggesting?
