I have just got a new toy it is a 1976 f250 super cab camper spec. 2wd she is a pretty one let me tell ya...but anyway my question is I had the pitman arm seal on the lower part of the power steering box go out so I replaced it with a napa seal.....it is a 4 piece kit plus a snap ring. I put the grove of the outer seal on facing out and when reinstalled the box and hooked it up it still leaked........so did I install the seal backwards or is the shaft just worn too bad to make a seal or is the fluid that I put in (power steering fluid not tranny fluid) the wrong viscosity? I don't want to pay 136 bucks for a new box if I don't have too but I am about out of options.
thanks for the help guys and girls.

re: powering steering box
well the seals are pressed in around the shaft...so you would have to remove the shaft to get under the seals to pry them out.
but I pulled the gear box out again and broke it down and found that I installed the seals (2) wrong......trashed the seals removeing them but bought a new set and installed them right and RE-installed everything in the truck and guess what.................yeah it worked..yeah me.

Sounds like one of my tricks. Got to do things 2 or 3 times to get them right. I get lots of practice that way.
