NP 435 blues -2 questions

I noticed that my NP435 has been a little noiser then usual so I checked an sure enough as soon as I pulled the fill plug oil started flowing ..
So I decided that it might be time to change the oil .
I found that buying a 5 gallon bucket of 80/90 gear oil and a hand pump that mounts into the top makes changing the oil a lot easyer .
I was kind of shocked to see what looked like glitter in the oil as the tranny was draining .
As far as I can tell the tranny is in good shape (it does not pop out of gear when I excellerate) and is only noisy in 3rd (third gear)
I was wondering if anyone knows what the problem might be or how long do I have before the tranny goes . I found this problem about 3 weeks ago and since then I have dumped the gear lube again, which seems to have helped as the tranny is pretty quiet - for the time being .
I plan on buying a rebuilt tranny from Jeffs Bronco Graveyard and I was wondering if anyone as had any experence with buying any axles/trannys/transfercases from JBG?

Thats sad to here a tranny going. She is probaly tired. When mine went it was vibrating real bad.

I have a NP435 manual that I copied to a PDF file. I am not sure if Keith has had time to post it here yet. I could burn a CD copy and send it to you if needed.

How much does Jeffs Bronco Graveyard charge. I have done quit a bit of business with them a couple years ago. They are pretty cool.

Although I am sure I can rebuild the tranny I just do not have a place to rebuild it .
Jeff's bronco graveyard is asking $695.00 +truck Freight I think that is a pretty good price for a rebuilt tranny with a 3 month warrentee..
My tranny is starting to vibrate , I think I have a few more months if I go easy and change the oil every 2-3 weeks .

Oh ya the best part about JBG is that they dont want your tranny as a core so I can keep my old tranny and in the future rebuild it ...

That isn't to bad of a price to buy a rebuilt without a core. I thought you were going to rebuild it, so nevermind on the Novak website.

I'm about to change my fluids tomorrow. Does the tranny and xfer case both use 80-90? Is it regular old stuff or should I use synthetic? or even ATF considering my cold temp. extremes and generally short trips (maybe 10 miles a day).

Both use 50 weight motor oil.

I wouldn't wast my money on synthetic oil if the tranny is fixin to die.

Thanks. How many quarts should I buy? Sorry, I don't have any manuals on Big Brown Bear. I have an old Chltons engine book tho I remember dad using it when I was knee high to a grasshopper.



My tranny seems ok, I just want to get the fluids changed and check for shavings etc. while I decide on whether to upgrade to an auto witha floor shift or a 5 speed from a mid-late 80's truck.

6.5 pints for the tranny and for the T-case it doesn't say. I would imagine around 5-6 pints. It also notes that it is SAE 50 for above 10 degrees F or SAE 30 for below 10 degrees F.

I like that kind of weather. You get all four seasons there. We get two seasons. 40 degrees, rain and lots of it and some sun for the month of summer.

I do love having all 4 seasons... but that's why I have 4 sons and started getting a stable of dirt bikes (CRF 230 for me and a crf 50 to teach the kids so far) and of course the hunting and camping. Fords sure look good in God's country.

Man, if you follow the recomendations you are going to be changing the oil twice a year. I guess that ain't to bad considering you probably change the oil in the crankcase more often (not knowing how many miles you drive it). I would be more inclinded to leave 50 weight in it all year around, but thats me. I am also known for stripping out bolts in aluminum from over doing it.

Are ya thinking 30 weaight for winter and 50 for summer? What about when towing a small pop trailer? It's my daily driver and hunting and camping rig.
