1971 ford truck color code

i have a 1971 ford truck and it has a code (s) for the color code it is a light green.

Are you sure it's a '71? The 'S' code for '70 shows 'Champagne Gold Metallic'. The '72 shows 'S' as being 'Med. Turquoise' or 'Shenandoah Green'.

Well, since the factory never did everything by the book, it's possible your truck simply got the 'upcoming' '72 Shenendoah Green'. It's also possible that code 'S' was a late-'71 addition, not documented in the factory color brochure, since it would have been printed at the beginning of the model year. That brochure is the only thing I have right now with those codes (aside from the Master Parts Catalog, and I wasn't feeling up to digging through that.) However, I DID just purchase several '71 paint chip sheets on E-bay, they should be arriving soon, and will be scanned and posted as soon as they arrive.

If your "S" is really a "5", it could be the 1970 color "Crystal green"???

4X4X4 is right according to the PPg 1972 color chart. *s is Lime Gold Poly and identified as a 1971 color only. #2388. here is the link.

your 71 may have the 72 paint scheme used. I know that my 69 Ford had the paint code in the VIN but was 70 model paint colors. They were a exact match, so i am guessing that the trucks built in the late part of the year used next year model colors.

that 71 R-M paint code page I sent you shows 'S' as Lime Gold Iridescent (#5880/71F37). It shows no color chip for it but has a footnote that says to check the 72 RM color card for a chip.

Here's the page from my post above showing the 1971 s color on the 72 chart indicating it was probably a late addition to the paint options. Did anyone look at it?

It is obviously a late addition to the production run. My 71 R-M paint card also shows codes 'X' (light ginger iridescent) and 'B' (medium blue iridescent) with no chips but the same footnote suggesting a check of the 72 chart for a color sample.
