This grill is like mine....factory modification?

Post by dablack00 »

Ok guys I know I have brought this up before. I posted pictures of the grill on my 68 project (waiting until my 71 project gets finished). My 68 has part of the horizontal bars missing and it has little brackets behind the grill to re-inforce the bars that have been cut. I have seen a couple of others on ebay w/ the EXACT same modification in teh EXACT same spot with the EXACT same brackets. Why is it there? Was there something mounted through the grill? Here is one on ebay. My grill looks just like this. It has to be something industrial because my truck was owned by the city and was service truck at one time.

Ok. Now we are getting somewhere. I have seen several grills like this. Usually on plain jane models. My 68 short bed had a 240/3 speed combo and no options. It does have the style side chrome bumper which is strange for such an industrial truck. I guess when the trucks get sold to the public, the lights are removed. I sure would like to find one that still had the lights or whatever was mounted there. I would like to see what it looks like.

Ladz,

I might get some fog light. I was also thinking about the lights on the 71-73 mustangs. I'm also glad your son is building a short bed, but STOP YELLING!

Weren't those cutouts for the upper support pieces for a grill guard that bolted to the bumper and the radiator support through these cutouts?

Had a 68 parts truck with that exact Ford accessory grill guard. It had encountered a few ornery cows but sure kept the aluminum grill nice. Looked like a pain in the butt to install as those rear supports need holes drilled in both the rad support and the inner fenders so they can bolt to the frame. I took some little pieces from a wrecked grill to patch the cut grill bars.
