Exhaust manifold gaskets
Has anyone used these?

I had my manifolds decked and put Fel-Pro gaskets in but have developed a leak again after 2 years and am looking for something better than the ones I used......don't want to run headers so I need to find something that is better than what I used......

I have these on my headers. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sce- ... /make/ford . They seal great and after removing the headers a couple of times, re-seal just as well. They have been on the truck for 15 years or so with no leaking. Percy's dead soft also are good ones as well. I'm not familiar with the gaskets you posted the link to but they seem like they would be good as well.

Pull your heads and get the flanges milled. Same for the manifolds. Bolt them together and forgetaboutit. Factory had some thin metal heat shields but no gaskets on the FE's.

Got them on my 390 with factory manifolds. Seem to be working well, but I've only got a couple hundred miles on the truck since install. I messed up and cracked the driver side manifold while installing them, still seals up for now, but I'm not sure how long it'll last. Given the cost of a replacement manifold and needing new exhaust anyway, I'll probably be installing headers in the not too distant future.Ohiotinkerer wrote:Has anyone used these?

That's great in theory, but not everyone has the luxury of tearing their engine apart just to fix an exhaust leak. I for one would rather keep replacing exhaust gaskets every few years than pull the heads once just to have the flanges milled. OK, ditch the gaskets and use some Permatex Ultra RTV instead. Having the heads millled would be a good option but it only has 83,000 miles on it with great compression and oil pressure so I don't want to mess with a good thing.....especially with my luck somedays....... .......that's why I'm looking at gasket options for now until I get to the point that I have to do something else internal with it......thanks much for all the suggestions so far.......got some decision making to do now.........Ranchero50 wrote:OK, ditch the gaskets and use some Permatex Ultra RTV instead. I have them on my 70 f250 with a 390 and headers. They have been on there for years with no problems. Definitely worth putting on.

Get your heads decked on the exhaust port side, get your manifolds decked and never run gaskets again.

Use grade 8 bolts and washers and antiseize.

we put a set of gaskets that came from a Thunderbird parts House and not leak and not leaked at ALL, they stink real bad at first but they work And this was about 3 years ago, price of the gaskets is like 75.00 for the pair, more info on dealer I got them from was Pat Wilson Thunderbird Parts in NJ and he uses them on all of the birds since he does a lot of exhaust on those big birds
