Rhino Liner

Post by Tallboy »

Thinking about having rhino sprayed in the cab, under the cab, on the firewall, and in the bed. Pretty much encapsulating the cab and bed.....
Primered first then sprayed in. What do you all think of this idear?

Good idea if you got the cash. Make sure you use a sealer/etch primer. That stuff won't stick on smooth metal.

I used the Herculiner product from AutoZone and did my cab floor, firewall and front fenders as well as the bed. Seems to be holding well after a couple of years.

I agree with jor. Herculiner works well.
I just did mine last week or so:

I did it because I like the look. Now Im thinking about the benefits like heat and noise insulation.
Me thinks its a great idea.

460 that looks really nice....
I want durable and rust proof for the next 35 years so Im gonna do the fire wall, undercab and inside of the cab. then the bed inside and bottom.
I think this will get me what I need and give me some good sound deadening.

3 weeks it goes into the sand blasters......

I plan on doing the very same thing this summer to at least the cab floors, undercab and firewall...possibly the entire truck, inside and out.

when doing a coat job try to do it with the least amount of relative humidity possible- you can seal in moisture- which will then turn to rust on down the road- i met a body man in the NE that clued me into this-when they were selling the aftermarket undercoatings several years ago (mid 70's and 80's) they found ( in the 90's) that they had trapped moisture and the metal went ahead and rusted out under the coating- just a heads up- jd

I coated the inside of my firewall along with the floor and bottom. I had thought about doing the firewall outside but decided against it.
I like the look of a painted body color firewall.
Doing the underside and inside of the bed seems like I great idea to me too. Thats what I plan to do when I get around to prepping my existing bed for re-installation. But I dont believe that doing a whole truck would be cost effective or good for the truck.
That stuff dries hard as a rock! And like Keith said in another thread: "make sure you get every single nook and cranny. What you don't want is for an area that isn't covered to get wet and the moisture to start trying to work it's way up under the edge of the Herculiner coating. Since that stuff is so tough, you wouldn't know about the rust until it's ready to drop out completely."

Jethro needs his bed bead blasted cause there's a shiite load of surface rust changing into the nasty unforgiving rust. Id love to do him up in that stuff!

Q: Realistically how much will I need to do it the right way one time...

1 gallon will do the inside of an 8 foot bed. Then you need a little more to do the tailgate.
For the underside, your guess is as good as mine. But Im guessing a gallon.

I changed belt buckles recently.

My new one makes my rust belt much lighter! :P
