Mystery bolt found hanging in engine compartment?

Post by Carb »

Was working on my 67 f100 when i saw a bolt hanging on the driver side. see images. bolt looks to be about 3.5 inches long, hanging from a ground point (?) on a wiring harness. its quite damaged. no obvious place where it lives on first glance. looks heavy duty.

By the size of the bolt it looks important. i'm worried...

Looks big enough to be a bellhousing bolt. Weird that it should be bent like that.

Another user thinks the same. It's approx 2-3/4 long by 1/2 in dia. Is this an easy bolt to find?

I'd say a bellhousing bolt. That's the only one long in that area. Also it has the reverse light switch harness clip on it.

Solution: it was a bell housing bolt. The reason it was so banged up was as it backed out it struck the steel floorboard and as it worked its way out got more and more bent.

My problem now is I cannot get a bolt in there because of the tight fit. I tried a shorter bolt (2.5 inches) and its still too tight. How do i make clearance? can i jack the engine up somehow or?
