This is the first time I've been to this site and posted. I may need to replace the engine in my '72. I want to go with another 302, but I don't know whats a good swap. I would like it to be able to take my upgrades (Holley 780/3310-1 on a Brock manifold, HE MSD Ignition, conventional fuel delivery, C6 auto). Down the road I'll swap for a 5 speed.
Can I get some ideas as to what to look for at my local Pick N Pull?
I would post pics but I'm being told the file is too big??

Look into a mid 90s Explorer with a 5.0... more better if it is rear ended cuz the it was running before it got whacked.
But why not rebuild your 302? .. Not equipped to do so?

Re: First Timer/Engine Question
I'm just exploring my options. Just started tinkering around with cars and trucks a few years go. I've got a Man Cave that I'm getting equipped to tackle bigger things. Just ordered a 1250# engine stand so maybe I'll see what's in this 302 before I jump into a swap. Right now I don't have any oil pressure. I haven't explored the pump drive shaft yet.HIO Silver wrote:Look into a mid 90s Explorer with a 5.0... more better if it is rear ended cuz the it was running before it got whacked.

You can put the pictures on one of the free hosting sites like PhotoBucket and use the [ img ] tags to show them here. Photobucket will actually give you the correct string to paste here.
There was a balance change in the small blocks - I think it was early 80's You will want to research that and make sure you get the proper components.
