I think I am finally going to go with 354 in the rear of the 68's Dana. Tired of turning 4 grand plus doing 60 MPH.

May your sails stay full, and your knots not slip. Unless a slip knot.

Re: RPM
If you mean towing and cruising I just want to cruise. As far as towing, no more than a utility trailer with a tractor mower in it.carnuck wrote:3.73s were good for both.

I know, been there done that, but alas it is not.carnuck wrote:I guess it depends on your tire size too. And terrain. If it was a 1/2 ton with a 9", you could've just swapped pumpkins!

Re: RPM
Do you mind sharing what it cost you to swap the 3.54 gears into your D60? Thinking about doing the same on my '66.

Re: RPM
I'm going to do the same thing with my 67. Seems like a good all around gear.

Re: RPM
Have not got to it yet but when I do I will post cost. Estimate for parts and labor is $900. It is not cheap when a shop does it, but I want it right and it is different than the ole pumpkin swap.cpuchalski wrote:Do you mind sharing what it cost you to swap the 3.54 gears into your D60? Re: RPM
One thing to consider on high mile Dana housings is that they tend to have excessive wear an the faces that the carrier bearing cups seat against if that is the case it is impossible to correctly preload the bearings correctly.
I might be more cost effective to find a later model 60 that is compatible with WMS spacing and just relocate the spring pads, with that you will also gain in axle spline count and have more options for carriers ie; lockers/limited slip.
I do my own setups in danas but I made the tooling needed and have lots of time and little money but if I found the right axle I would still probably choose the spring pad relocation as the easiest/quickest option.....
