Hello,
I have a rear end that I know is a 9" with trac lock the case number is a C1AW-4025-A with a gear ratio of 4.11 and the numbers on the ring gear are C2AW-4210A then there is a heart and 3-6C7. On the pinion housing the numbers are C5AW-4668-C the axle tubes are 52" from flange to flange at 3" all the way out to the flange. The axles are 31 spline. The auto parts are going to ask me what it is in to get parts this is why I'm wanting know what it came out of?
Thanks to all that can help.
Ken

Re: No carrier tag what did it come out of?
No need to know the original application to get parts for the rear end
Its a 9 inch
Take it apart and every bearing will have a part number to match up
Small or big carrier bearings....They have a part number on them
You either have small or big bearing ends.....not to hard to figure out
Brakes match up to backing plates and drums or if you have the old shoes not hard to match up
If your parts house can not or will not take the time to check on parts
Find another one

Sounds like it isn't out of any one thing but is from a collection of several vehicle rear ends.k4chevy383 wrote:Hello,

The improved single vertical rib 9-inch 3rd member cases had a C7AW casting. You say yours is cast with C1AW, yet, has a C5AW pinion housing casting --that doesn't add up and sounds like someone took parts from various 3rd members and pieced this one together.
If you're going to replace carrier/driving pinion bearings and races, you'll probably have to take the 3rd member apart and get the numbers off the bearings/races and then take the numbers with you to the parts store to order replacement parts.
