Master cylinder connections

Post by hillcountryflt »

As part of my brake upgrade - i am converting from all now non-power drums to power front discs - I am now at the point to run my lines from the MC to the proportioning valve. On the proportioning valve that was pulled from a 1978 F100, it has one larger inlet one smaller inlet. I know the larger one going out goes to the rear brakes and the two smaller ones support the front brakes. Of the outlets from the mc there is one that requires a larger fitting than the other. Would that go to the larger connection on the proportioning valve?

Well dang. I have my left and right front connections switched according to this diagram. Can't easily be swapped in my situation and would require rerunning the lines.

Where it says, "Rear Inlet" would be the feed to the combination valve from the MC's port closest to the radiator.

The "Front Inlet" would come from the MC port closest to the firewall.

"Front" and "Rear" on the diagram labeling isn't in reference to which (physical) MC ports tie into those valve ports. It's in reference to the rear brake feed or front brake feed to the combination valve.

In Fords, the MC port closest to the firewall supplies fluid/pressure to the front brakes.

Thanks on that. Have my lines hooked up in proper order (and re-orientated the valve properly). Working through getting them bled. Initially I had a leak on the mc connection supporting the front brakes and at both banjo bolts. I think I have eliminated those, finally. Will see Saturday.
Good news is the brake light finally went out. Has been on ever since I got the truck (nice red glow filling the cab when driving to work in the wee hours of the morning). Well I hope good news. It came on at start-up like it is supposed to and turned off after a few seconds.
