in the process of rebuilding my t18, im taking out the input and output shaft lock rings (the roughly 1inch diameter ones). these little suckers are really tight, they are about 1/8 inch thick, my 9" lock ring pliers can only pry one end out of the groove, can't really open it more, and it seems rather dangerous too.
on amazon there is this " super heavy duty lock ring pkiers" that works sort of like pvc pipe cutters, with a ratchet. that should probably be fine. but it costs quite a lot
how did you remove such thick lock rings?

More than once I've had lock rings stuck in the groove due to rust or other gunk. Spray it down good with PB Blaster or Kroil or something and try to get it to spin in the groove and break that stuff loose.

If you can get it to open on one end stick the end of a small flat head screwdriver behind the ring to keep it from fitting back into the groove,then you will have more freedom to get the other end to come loose it might take a punch and small ball peen hammer to loosen it then the ring pliers and another screwdriver once it out of the groove just slide it off the shaft.It is potentially hazardous so eye protection at a minimum and a face shield is best.....unless you need a new scar for character

solved the problem, cut 2 1ft long tubes (electrical metal conduit from home depot, 2$ a piece for 10ft). extended the pliers. it works without any hassle, no more sparks flying from the metal scratching . I'm a genius!
