heater trouble
my heater died. it made a loud scary noise and quit blowing so i turned it off. pulled everything out of the dash involving the heater. ordered $200 worth of parts from lmc. rebuilding the heater. hopefully i won't be dissapointed by chinese rubber as i have been with everything else i've been ordering from their company. parts came in today. it will receive paint and careful assembly so it looks nice and i don't have any problems out of it again in my lifetime (hopefully).

btw i wanted to add folks if you have rusty heater control cables like mine, don't grease them and keep trying to use them. in my opinion you will just further damage your hard to find heater parts. just disconnect your cables until you can replace them. before i had given bad advice on a post and told people if your cables are rusty and you're having problems moving them to grease them or something. that was terrible advice. i'm learning the hard way. i can't remember where but i believe one of our female members(could be wrong) on the forum posted pictures of their heater box restoration that i saw many months ago and i would just like to say i will aspire to reach your standard/quality. you gave me lots of ideas and i have discount access to all the paints that should make this heater box look as good as yours. wish i could find the post again to refresh everyones memory on the restoration since some of us seem to be having heater issues. that was a beautiful looking rebuild and i hope mine comes out as well as yours.

Re: heater trouble
my heater motor finally arrived from lmc. they screwed up the shipping and shipped everything else on time except for the motor. the reason being is because they probably called the chinese to make me one. it has a fat made in china sticker on the side. i'm going to try to rebuild the whole heater box today. it's going to get paint and and cleaning. basically the best restoration i can give it with a rattle can and some wire brushes and soapy water and some grease to keep things lubricated.

Re: heater trouble
disassembled the heater box completely. those pressed in studs were a dumb move by ford. i'll be replacing those with small machine screws and nuts. i was able to pull the circular fan blade off the blower motor without messing it up. i consider myself lucky. i hosed the fan down on the original motor prior to pulling it off with pbblaster to provide lubrication. i then took the motor to my [censored] sink and turned the water on as hot as it could get. i then held the fan blade attached to the old motor under the running water to heat up the plastic on the fan blade. i then gently pulled and rotated, pulled and rotated, slowly pulling the blade off without damaging it. the added heat from the water definitely helped. i took the plastic case and super glued some plastic that broke off back on to it. i then scrubbed the case and the fan with a sponge and soap and hot water. i then sprayed the plastic case with some rustoleum that has a built in primer in a gloss black. i took all the internal metal parts in the heater box and ran a wire brush over them with a drill. this couldn't do the metal justice and completely get rid of all the rust. i resigned to filling a 5 gallon bucket to the top with apple cider vinegar and dunked the parts. i'll open the bucket and move the parts around in a week or two. they should be completely cleaned by the acid in 3 or 4 weeks i think. i see where all the thin foam strips go. i have no idea where some of these other rubber and foam blocks go. wish there was a good diagram somewhere of where all these foams go. right before assembly i'm going to squirt more super glue in all the hair line cracks that formed from drilling out the studs. i will not install my restored heater box until i have replaced my windshield. i have a small water leak that is dripping down the firewall in the heaterbox area and i don't want my fully restored heater box getting ruined again.

Re: heater trouble
lmc sent me the wrong blower motor. if this is what they sell us for 72 ford trucks then we are all screwed. i guess that's if you even want to do business with them on a regular basis. now i'm pissed. fordification rise up and lets retake the re-manufacturers that insist on continuing to fail us. i understand that we choose to own vehicles with limited product availability and poor customer service from said companies that supposedly sell parts that are recommended for our vehicles. does that mean that we have to put up with it? heck no. i'm going to call them and give them a earful tomorrow, again, for the 5th time in my history with lmc, for screwing up another order again, for every single one of you who has been ham boned or disappointed by a order from anyone that claims to provide you a quality service for your truck parts who is lying through their teeth to rob from the enthusiast to support the incompetent business model in the name of dying or dead quality american automotive parts based companies. that last sentence has to be bad english but i don't care
imagine what our classic parts industry will be like 10 years from now. makes me want to buy a honda and live unhappily ever after
blower motors are all over ebay brand new and cheaper than the wrong one lmc is trying to get me to accept. i got what was coming to me by trying to do business with lmc again. lesson learned.

Re: heater trouble
Since you've gotta get a new motor anyway, why don't you go ahead and supercharge it? http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =6&t=73960
