I'm in the process of converting my long wheel base truck to a short wheelbase truck.( I'm taking lots of pics for a future post.)
The driveshaft on the swb truck is completely different from the original set up so I need a complete driveshaft. I've been watching Fleabay with no sightings. Wreckers are scarce here. If someone has one to sell or knows of where I could get one I'd be forever greatful. My only other option is a custom built one.
It's a 68 Ranger, short wheelbase, 2wd, 360, ford light duty 3sp std trans, 9" rearend.
Need a swb 68 2wd driveshaft

Re: Need a swb 68 2wd driveshaft
When I converted my 1970 lwb to a swb last year I just shortened the rear shaft 16". I carefully ground and cut the welds around the yoke to remove it from the shaft. took 16" out of the driveshaft using a tube cuttter and welded the yoke back into the shortened shaft. Trued it up with a dial gauge before fully welding it.
It is remarkably well balanced as is and is buying me time until I decide for sure the direction I want to take with the current rearend. If I decide to keep the 9" then I will have a custom 1 piece shaft made later.
