I found a e4od trans in the bone yard. Its in a 3/4 ton van. I was wondering if anyone ever put one in a bump? looks mighty big so don't know if it will fit without some fab work...

Tim, in my opinion the E4OD is overkill, unless you are towing a low boy / backhoe, or a 5th wheel gooseneck of some sort...This trans is large. It is basically a C6 with an overdrive section built into the front end...It shifts 1-2-3- like a regular 3 speed, then when the processor is satisfied it will shift into 4th...The lock-up converter is also controlled by the processor, as are ALL shifts....There are after mkt. processor's available.
But this is a large unit....trans & converter when full of fluid is in excess of 250 pounds..
If you are going this route......stay away from units made before 1996...a 4R100 is a better choice...but I would think this thru.
There are better choices if you just want overdrive & are not doing HEAVY DUTY work than this large unit.........Donnie

It is big, it's a big turd. The E4OD is the worst disaster of an automatic Ford ever experimented with. Even they are embarrassed by it, so much so they renamed it later on.
