c6 trannsmission
I have a 1970 f-250 automatic c-6 all at once now when you put it gear it sits there for a bit or I give it some gas then it will go into gear and move, does not matter if it is going into reverse or into drive, and it doe not do it all the time but it is getting more frequent thanks

Re: c6 trannsmission
Joe, since it does it in either reverse or foreward....that eliminates the hard rubber seals in the foreward drum, that is a common no foreward, but rev is OK condition...........so lets look at "converter drain back"......in the AM after the truck sits all night, before you even touch the key/ ign///
Open the hood & pull the dipstick. see if the fluid is way overfull........like up the stick..if so, your converter is draining back..
There are some ways to address this , some easy, some more involved....If that is what you find & you want an easy out............................
Just start the truck & allow it a minute or so to refill the converter, drop it in gear a drive away...NO NEED to rev up the engine. You will soon see how long this takes at idle or fast idle if the engine is choked...give it the required time.........If you want to try some other "fixes"
post back.....................Donnie

Re: c6 trannsmission
Could be the lip seals inside the transmission. Once they get some age/heat cycles on the lip seals they start to harden, causing a delay in engagement. This mostly happens after the trans has cooled down, like when you let it sit overnight. Good luck. Todd

Joe, just checkin' in to see how you made out with your drain back problem........Did you install the drain back valve that we discussed?
Haven't seen anything on here , just wondering...........Donnie

Re: c6 trannsmission
It will do this if low on fluid or the filter is dirty.

Re: c6 trannsmission
The C6 does not have a "filter", just a screen.............if that screen is clogged with enough clutch material to inhibit flow.....
His problems are more serious than indicated............Donnie

Oh yea, I haven't popped the pan off of a C6 in a few years. My bump is a standard.

Hey Tac, you were 1/2 correct anyway. He said that he was 3 qts low in fluid, I'm surprised that it didn't flare going around 90 degree intersections...anyway , I guess that he got it figured out ,,,,,,,,,,Donnie
