same driveshaft?

Post by blumule »

would the driveshaft from a 69 shortbed,390 with manual 3 speed be the same as a 77 short bed, 302 with a manual 3 speed? both are a 1 piece shaft. im looking for one for my truck and found this 77 on craigslist. owner said its a 1 piece shaft.

Very unlikely that it is the same driveshaft. Ford driveshafts were different for almost every engine & transmission combination--most people don't realize this fact. Sometimes they even changed dimensions from year to year for the same truck. Also, a 302 usually had a smaller diameter driveshaft than a 390. Going from a dentside to a bumpside is getting to be a bit of a stretch too. Is the truck's wheelbase the same for the short bed. On a long bed, the bumpside wheelbase is 2 inches shorter than the dent side--not sure about the long bed.

I can do a little research in the parts manuals if you like to try and get the exact specs--it will just take some time. Let me know.
