71 f100 will shift into drive, but not back into park
I can shift into reverse, neutral, park etc, but I can't shifts back up to reverse from drive, or park from reverse. I have to pop the hood and pull the linkage up to put it into park.

It sounds like you might have already troubleshooted it to be in the column if you're able to go back into park with the linkeage unhooked? You are still using the column shifter aren't you or do you have a floor / aftermarket type shifter? Does the selector shaft, (shaft coming out of the tranny where the linkeage hooks to part#7228 in the below schematic) shift through all the gears with the linkeage rod unhooked? If so then try to see how much resistance the shift collar, (collar surrounds the steering column) has with the linkeage unhooked. Here's the steering column schematic that also might help:booblinker on Sun Nov 04, 2012 1:02 pm
