Speedometer not working
I got a new speedo cable because the exhaust fried the old one. But it still says I am doing 0 on the highway, and I think that is wrong. I disconnected it from the trany, and turned it by hand, and sure enough it moved the odometer a little, so I know that from the cable end it is OK. What can I do to fix this without removing the transmission?
I just got my web site up! Check it out!

re: Speedometer not working
Welp, if it says your doing 0 on the highway and your not in park. Then your probably right and the speedo aint registering your real speed.
If you can get the speedo to move by spinning the cables core from the bottom of the cable then Id guess that your speedo and cable are OK but the plastic gear in the tranny is not.
When you pull the cable off. Can you shine a flashight into the hole and see a little plastic stick? Thats the speedo gear and from what your describing its probably stripped out and needs to be replaced.
They are either color coded or you have to count the teeth on them to make sure you get a new one with the same gear ratio.
Shouldnt be hard to find a new one and it shouldnt be very expensive either.
Hope this helps.

re: Speedometer not working
If you don't get the cable housing good and tight to the speedo head it can let the cable move back far enough not to spin the speedo.

I didn't mean any offense to Sharkey, I was just saying in a fun way what the problem was. I suppose that sarcasm doesn't work in writing.

yeah when you type sarcasm, unless you stretch the word out and put ............. dots in between them. You can't get that intended hook.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~
