Door weatherstripping
Continuing on with my restoration, I just put on new weatherstripping on the passenger side door. The door really doesn't want to close too well anymore unless I really slam it. The weatherstrip is from NPD. Anyone else replace theirs recently and have trouble with it? Right now, I have the door closed as it should be, but it doesn't open easily. Will it eventually mold to the door and fit better or is there some trick to installing them(they seem pretty self explanatory to me....)

I did mine recently and they were VERY tight to begin with, but have since loosened up. I still have to close the door firmly though or it won't close all the way. Are you happy with the adhesive you used? I used 3M black and didn't install the sill plates right away and the weatherstrip along the bottom started to come unglued.

Okay, well I guess I'm just not used to having much for weatherstripping around the door. Its actually arleady becoming easier to close. I used 3M black too - I don't know because I haven't tried others, but I like it because it bonds the weatherstripping fast - it didn't take very long for it to stick around the top and the sides - and I would have been pissed if I had to sit there and hold it forever so it wouldn't keep pulling off. As far as the bottom by the sill goes - I gave up on that. First of all, I didn't see how i could get the weatherstripping to stay there - second - they are new sills from NPD - and they are pretty good but just don't fit perfectly - and third - I have no patience and only two hands! So i just cut off the lip of the weatherstipping that goes under the sill.

I've used Permatex Weatherstrip Cement (pale yellow color) and do not recommend it. It doesn't set up quickly enough and I have had several problems with sagging trim.

If you get the weatherstripping for a later truck you don't have to glue it. It has a some metal in it so it clips on. I got some from a ninety something f150 and installed it on my 71. It fits up nice and is staying in place. I did have to bend it out where the door sill lays across it.
I also had to adjust the strikers before the door would shut without slamming it.

I've seen the weatherstripping sold by the foot at an interior shop...it was on a big spool....I might try that later model stuff with the metal in it...That was one of the most messy, miserable things I did with my old truck....And I do NOT recommend Henry contact cement--unless you get your kicks cleaning sloppy, stringy glue off your fingertips,windshield,dashboard,seat,wristwatch,mustache....On top of all that it does a lousy job of sticking rubber to metal....
This is the point...I'm....talking about everybody! I'm talking about form! I'm talking about content! I'm talking about interrelationships! I'm talking about God, the devil, hell, heaven!!!! Do you understand???? Finally!!!!

re: Door weatherstripping
hahaha. and I was pissed because I smudged a little bit in the door jamb, but then again those had just been painted....wish I heard about that newer style weatherstripping before...but ohh well...mine's on there now and it ain't coming off for another twenty years and its all torn up and disintegrated. Same with the seat....not until its been completely duct taped, all springs broken, foam shot, and covered with one of those shoddy, itchy seat covers will I put myself through that hell again. And now that I have put on all this new stuff...I can't just jump in my old truck all dirty anymore...I have to put down a towel or clean up first! One thing I can still get dirty though is the steering wheel...its the one off my first 69 250 that got recently cut in half
and made into a trailer...its cracked and worn and will always stay that way in memory..haha.

re: Door weatherstripping
I had purchased a set from Dennis Carpenter. They feel like a inexpensive piece of foam. Shouldn't they be rubber like the old ones?
