72 F100 Missing 3rd Gear

Hey everyone, this is my first post. I am about to buy a 72 F100 with a small block V8 (302?) and 3 speed tranny. The guy I am buying it from claims that 3rd gear no longer works. I am wondering what sort of pain I am in for to replace/repair the transmission.

I'm not looking to extensivley modify the truck, just get the gear back. HAving said that I am not opposed to improving the transmission to a 4 speed or other for improved milage, etc.

Any thoughts would be great appreciated.

Welcome aboard. It's rare to run into a three speed that is actually broken. There are plenty that seem broken, but can be fixed easily. If it does require replacement, 3 speeds are a dime a dozen in junkyards and light enough to replace by yourself on a Saturday afternoon. You could do it in less than an hour with a friend helping.

Thanks for the input. I am searching for one in a junkyard as we speak. So far no luck, but I will continue to search. One has to be around here somehwere.
