I need to know something
How do you get the firewall cover off so that it can be reused. My firewall is leaking and I need to put some silicone on it and I don't know how to get it off to get it out of my way. Thanks. That is a pretty good way to get the rear view mirror off. It's a good way to use your head.

There are some clips that stick out into the engine compartment. You can try mashing the ends of those clips in and pushing them back into the cab. I tried to save my clips but destroyed most of them in the process. If your firewall is leaking you may not be able to salvage the cover. They are basically nothing but real thick cardboard. I tried to save mine as well, but if fell apart on me.

Like flyboy said, you'll pretty much destroy the clips holding it to the firewall. But to remove the cover, the clips have to be removed. You'll also have to remove the gas pedal from the arm (held on with a Phillips-head screw) and the fusebox....and probably a few other things that I'm forgetting. But you'll probably also destroy that cardboard cover removing it too....by now it's probably very brittle. You might have better luck trying to silicon things from the engine bay. Can you tell where your leaks are coming from?

Iv'e already removed the heater, the cover seems solid when you bend the corners, my fuse box is not attached to the firewall it just hangs there, and it is leaking through the cowl on each side and runs down the corner by the kickpanels and settles in the floorboard under the vinyl. So it has rusted out my floorboards and you can only repair it from the inside
. The only place it seems to be leaking from in the center is one spot through the passenger side windshield wiper. But it goes on top of the cover not behind it. Anyways thanks, I'll let you know what happens.

re: I need to know something
Well boys, I'm either lucky
or good
, I'm not sure which.
I have managed to pop the clips out and pull the cover down out of my way and silicon it. Its hard to get a caulk gun up in the dash so it ain't that pretty of a job but it should work. I'll make it pretty someday whenI pull the cab off and paint it, but that will have to be when I get out of school and can afford something else to drive. Anyways I put the cover back up there popped the clips back in and only messed up one clip, and I only tore one corner of the cover.
I'm happy. All I've got to do is put the heater, glovebox, and CB back in. That also gave me a chance to run my coax through the firewall instead of the transmission hump. I couldn't take the cover completely out because of my shifter. Maybe now I can replace the floorboards without worrying about them rusting out again. The previous owner fixed the drivers side with stove material and pop riveted it in. However, My dad works at a steel shop so we can get the stuff to do it out of scraps and won't cost a thing.
Also My mom bought me the tube of silicone after I offered to pay for it. Life is good. Thanks for the advice. Getting on the internet to ask friends for advice. $0.00, Tube of silicone to fix a leak, $0.00, Having a truck that don't leak as bad anymore, Priceless. There are some trucks that require money to fix. For everyone else there's Fords.
Thanks guys.
