3.03 oil capacity

Post by wickedinhere »

I looked in by haynes manual and it says 13 quarts for the 3.03 is that right? That seems way to much.
You can pay more but you cant buy better.

if 3.03 is your rear end (ratio) then that is definately too much. maybe 1.3? seems like they hold 2.5 though if i remember right.

if you meant something other than your rearend , my mistake

Its got to be a misprint i could just fill it till it comes out of the fill hole but i want to know how much to buy. I am guessing but i would think around 3 quarts.

if it has a fill plug ont he side of it. fill it to where the oil is level with the fill plug hole. when it starts to weep out then stop filling. th is what my book says. it shows the pic of a t-18 or a np435. with the filler on the drivers side of it

 13 quarts??? That's more than 3 GALLONS! I don't think you could get that much fluid in a completely-gutted transmission case.

The shop manual calls for 3-1/2 pints.

Thanks that sounds more like it. The guy that rebuilt it for me said to use 90 w i assume he was talking about gear oil like the rearend uses.

my chilton said 13 ots for an automatic. and fill to the bottom of the hole on a manual. it was probably a typo in the ohter books that said 13 for a manual trans.
