Few questions on a holly 600 carb
So I put my new 351w in, the engine runs good, but I have a few tweaks to make. Its a 4 barrel, do they stay primed? Because mine seem not to stay primed and I have a pump a whole lot more. Another how hard is it to rebuild them, I think I only need the bottom fuel thing, not sure what its called accelerator pump maybe and a gasket and that will fix the leak. So as a break down, since I never know what to ask heres the questions
Does a holly 600/650 stay primed? If it does, how do I fix mine to keep it primed?
How hard is it to rebuild them? And is it worth getting it profesionally rebuilt?

A Holley 4V is no different then any other carb. Your truck should start even after sitting for days. If you want it to run properly, take it to someone who knows what they're doing. Good carb guys are getting harder to find.

Is it a 600 or 650?
Give us a list number off the air horn (it should look like "01850-10") because a 600/650 holley could be anything.
A picture of the "bottom fuel thing" would help, a leak on the bottom could be the bowl or accelerator pump. It is probably not staying "primered" because it is leaking. But yes, it should retain fuel for a very long time (for instance mine starts with 3 presses of the gas pedal after months of sitting).

fuel thingy...... little technical, but i'm gonna guess accelerator pump. Should stay primed, unless we have a leak in the accel. pump itself, or one of the screws in the pump housing has come loose.If the pump itself is bad, they're available seperatly, and replacable without completely tearing the carb apart. If you decide to do a complete rebuild, (and it ain't that hard) make sure you get a Holley kit.

Just a tip here:
Holley carburators DO NOT take well at all to having things overtightened on them, in fact, almost everything that I've ever found wrong with one can be traced back to someone working on it.
If ever there was a time for "finesse" this is it.

Well there is that...
There are seals on the 4 float bowl bolts. Many folks just try to tighten the bolts when the seals go bad and can warp the metering plates or body.
Just remember it is soft aluminum.

Snug is good. If you attempt the "gorilla-tight" method, you are going to buy a lot of carb parts.

Lol, yea I learned my lesson, I bought some carb cleaner for gas, and got the leak stopped. Its workin much better, I have to get new donut gaskets for exhaust, then it will be a beast. That engine roars
