Radiator mounting

Post by 71HANKER »

Hey guys i put a new 180 thermostat in and a new rad cap on my truck but it still gets way too hot. Pulled the radiator and its pretty bad, soldered up holes in it and crushed fins. Im trying to decide which new radiator to buy and from whom to get it, but theres one thing really confusing me. I found that there are front flange mount radiators and rear flange mount radiators and i don't know which one it would be for a 1971 4x4 F-100 (stock motor 360ci). From some pictures i can find mine looks like a rear mount kind, because the side mounting fins on the rad are flush with the front side of the radiator(on the grille side of the rad). Am i correct in thinking that is a rear mount type? if it is a rear mount the best deal i can find is an aluminum one for $200. if anyone else has better links or sites let me know. Thanks

this is similar to what my 71 4x4 has in it. this is the midway mount type but it sits in there almost as deep as mine sits in there. i have a problem though. my core support is toated. and the radiator is too. can i just put a 2wd radiator and core support in this truck with no problems? as far as your raditor those side straps come off. any radiator you get can have those side straps swapped on them with your old radiator. so as long as the number of inside tubes is correct you can just have the mounting straps swapped onto the new radiator.

Well i went and bought a brand new radiator today, 200 bucks later. My old one had holes soldered up and it was really blocked up inside, and everyone in town wants like 130 bucks to rod out the radiator and pressure test and straighten fins, so i went with a new one just for reassurance. I got it from a radiator wholesaler here in town and on the web at www.radiator.com. Aluminum, 3row plastic top and bottom, dropped right in fit perfect, no problems at all. Tomorrow i'll get the antifreeze and c if my over heating problem is fixed. wish me luck dudes
