Previous owner of truck is liar!!

Post by JMcTurnan »

So the previous owner I bought my truck from said the 302 only had 60k miles, hah like I believe that. I pulled it out, and pulled timing chain cover off and guess what, it was so nasty. Its 50 years of gunk, a block to bell housing ear was busted. He just wanted me to buy it, but guess what. I am happy I did, I pulling everything, i busted off dipstick off timing cover so will have to get a new one. Put new freeze plugs in 351w and flywheel and few other parts and than I can drop it in. It's going to beast. Have you guys ever made a bracket on carb for passing gear? If you have do you got pictures.

the gunk you found doesnt mean that it has more than 60K on it its possible that the motor didnt have the oil changed properly on it and the fact that if it was over heating a lot it can make that kind of build up as well. my 352 when i rebuilt it had almost 100,000 miles on it and it wasnt even that bad.

It really depends on how it was taken care of and how it was drove.
I don't really care about brands Chevy Ford Dodge ...as long as it doesn't sound like two old dudes farting in a coffee can.

Every engine in every used car has been rebuilt. Or at least, that's what the sellers would have you believe. Unless they've got receipts for machine shop work, it's BS.

Sounds like you go at things like a dog killin' snakes.

Learn to slow down and take your time. You'll replace less parts.

i thought you were going to sell the 302 once you got the 351 put in. why bother taking it apart then. unless your going to totally rebuild it before you sell it.

Good advice. A little finesse and the right tool is usually preferable to a bigger hammer.

Most of the "box stores" have "tool rental" programs.

One other tenant of used vehicle buying: All sellers are liars, even the ones that are trying to tell the truth, either through embellishment or faulty memory. If there is no receipt it didn't happen...
