Finishing up the rebuild of the 390 in my 1971 F-250 4x4 (highboy) and am ready to drop the engine in. My first attempt did not go well. We jacked up the (manual) transmission and tried to get the gap around the bell housing consistent top to bottom as we lowered it in, but would come up about an inch short.
Any tips on getting this thing back in?? Should we be able to get the engine in with the perches in place?
Thanks, Steve

Re: engine install help
Lift the motor with the front high, (chain set) After lifting it over the radiator cowl come in sideways until the balancer clears. You may have to have someone under the car pulling down on the tail shaft. The tail shaft will barely clear the tunnel. When it does, lower it and roll it back in as you straighten it out. The big blocks are a shoehorn job.
We could barely get the 427 out of my truck and the 302 went back in like an economy car in an airplane hangar.
