OMG MY TRUCK IS DRIVING ME INSANE!~~ARRRGGGG!! HEHE HI DAD

Post by sacramento_ford »

well here u go, truck kept dying while i was driving and fumes/ vapor, like when it warmed up it would just die, sometimes 5 miles down the way.. and would be hard to restart, id have to give it alot of gas to restart,, ok,,,,,,,,,,,, so i rebuilt the carb,,, installed. now its spiffing and a pop out of carb..
and even had a small flame come out of the top of the carb, ive put in new wires, plugs,. cap rotor, new fuel pump , only thing i havent changed is the coil, i dont think the coil would cause so much troble, this is my 1st carb rebuilt. so might still be the carb ,,,ive run out of option to what it may be ..it would be awesome to have it at its hayday of driving and cruisin round town

you are going to have to take it to someone and have the carb adjusted or something to it. i am no good at carb problems. and i'm not sure your description o fhte problem is helping anyone to understand how to help with your problem. backfiring is sometiems a out of time issue. but if you haven't had that issue before it has to be in the carb still i am just guessing now.

next to things im thinking of,,ignition module or coil, maybe the plugs arent sparking enough and causing the fuel to build up and flood,,,

Sounds like a carb issue. If you can't rebuild it correctly, get someone who can or buy another one. Carbs are mostly simple but a missing piece or poor rebuild can cause alot of headaches.

wasnt a backfire, was more of a loud spit out of the carb throat. even got a small flame, poof, something is causing it to randomly die,..
and its doing the same thing with a rebuilt carb, im stunned and give up... i try to do things myself, but im getting to the pont of taking it to a mechanic and saying fix it, ill be back tommorow to pick it up ..

Hey sacramento_ford

Have you checked the points and ignition timing???
Either of those could also cause it to fart and belch fire as well. They could also cause it to die and be hard starting, especially when warm.

Hi,

I really think that you ought to start by getting the truck warmed up, setting the idle speed, plugging the vacuum advance port, and checking the timing. I'm going to guess that either the ignition timing is way off, or your timing chain is off by a tooth or two.

Good luck with it!

I'm with Kapton and Mr Josh on this I think it's a timing issue, esp since you stated the same symptom before the carb was rebuilt. A very weak spark or very lean air fuel mixture could cause these same symptoms.

When I first rebuilt my engine I had the same problem It would backfire and when I would get it running it would run for a while then die and very hard to start after wards. Mine was a timing issue along with a bad coil. When I got the timing set right and the coil replaced it ran fine. when the coil heated it up it would not crank at all until it cooled back down. :2cents:
