352 wont start

Post by buckeye_balls7 »

I have a 67' w/ the original 352 in it. I tore apart the motor ,and when I put it back together it won't start. I think it is the distributor is placed wrong. And I Can not for the life of me,remember its original position. Can someone please send a overhead pic of a running 352 ,so I can get my girl running

Roll the motor back to TDC on #1, then rephase the distributor.

Pull out the #1 spark plug. Stick your finger over the spark plug hole, with a remote starter button hooked up to the solenoid, intermittantly and slowly, bump the engine around until the compression blows your finger off of the plug hole. The next time the TDC or 0 comes up on the balancer, you are at TDC on compression stroke. Mark a spot on the dist housing where the #1 nipple is. Stab the dist. in with the rotor as close to your mark on the housing as possible. Install plug wires 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 Dist. turns counter-clockwise.

Ok, I have no idea what a distributor nipple looks like ,(probably not like Brittney Spear's :( ) . Would you be talking about the vacuum advance nipple??? With all this nipple talk,I need a break. Is it to early for a beer? :hmm:

No, the nipple where you plug the spark plug wire into the cap. Sorry, couldn't think of what else to call it last night...some dist. caps are marked with a 1 on top of the cap.

If you notice in fordmans pic there are two squares drawn at the edge of the cap opposite each other. Those would be the clips that hold the cap on.
#one is just to the right of that clip. If your caps not numbered.
Your vacume advance should just about be pointing strait forward when installed, and rotor pointing toward the driverside rear cylinder (or #8) with #1 @ TDC.
If I remember right with the rotor aligned to the edge of the clip gets you @ about 10°BTDC on the timing. Should fire up set there.
