Depends on the build of the 429, however, a stocker I would recommend 2.5 inch duals with some sort of crossover, X or H, doesnt really matter.

Go with a pair of efficient mufflers and it'll run strong.

If the motor has work done to it, 3 inch exhaust will work better

Put some electric actuated cut-outs so that you can go from quiet to loud by hitting a switch. Those things are awesome!

They can get a little pricey....

As for mufflers I recommend Magnaflow mufflers. They sound great & have zero interior resonance like a chambered muffler. Flowmaster has fell out of favor with me. (after 10+ years)

They are quite expensive ($250??) but I still plan to use them, you can have a nice quiet muffler all week and just hit and switch and do some weekend drag racing.

This is sort of apples and oranges, but although I will end up using the Flowmasters off my Mustang on my pickup, I recommend NOT using Flowmasters.

I run 3 inch exhaust on the Mustang with a 489 inch alum headed FE with all the goodies. After whining about the resonance inside the car for 4 years, I finally swapped for Borla ProXS mufflers, same 3 inch size.

Now, the resonance is gone, but although it wouldnt be a factor on a truck, the reason I am not a Flowmaster fan is that I picked up power everywhere in the curve. It wasnt dramatic, but it was certainly very noticeable.

Now, I hate to throw away new-condition 3 inch Flowmasters, so the truck will have suck it up a little power loss, but I wouldnt ever pay for Flowmasters after seeing my results and testing on the web that backed it up.

They aren't junk, so don't get me wrong and I loved the sound outside the car, AND they are certainly still better than stock mufflers, but they are more for sound than all out performance.

If it were me, for stainless mufflers I'd go Borla ProXS, and for regular alumized, Magnaflow, or Dynomax Super Turbo.
