67-68 F100 2wd 460 engine swap advise please !!

Post by mercurymick »

Hi all

I am just about to take on my engine swap to a 429/460 plus a c6 and take out the 360FE manual , I was after advise on the following topics.

Should i use small block 302/351 windsor frame perches with New Trans Dapt Urethane Motor Mounts F100 F150 429 460 ?

Or go for the Ford F100-350 2WD 460 Motor Factory Frame/Motor Mounts from a 77 F series truck ?

Also what brand headers should i buy for this application that will be a bolt on fit.?

I only want to do this job once and in the best way possible so your help will be much appreciated.

I used factory mounts from a newer truck like you mentioned. worked great. wouldnt do it any other way.

I wont comment on the usability of the trans dapt parts, never heard a thing about them, but as easy as it was to use the later ford perches, that is what i would do for sure.

Now how newer do the newer mounts need to be? I just grabbed an 85 460/C6 to put in place of the 300-6/4speed in the truck in sig....was reading some other posts about the 460 being a PITA to swap......Thanks!!

i'm getting ready to do the same swap. 300-429. i just bought a pair of 77 460 mounts and from all the research it should all be bolt in. well, maybe to drill a hole or two but nothing major that has to be done.

I have to agree with all posts, I have done two swaps with 429/460 engines and they were very easy using the factory stuff out of mid 1970's trucks. Like Fordman stated get everything when you buy..Drill a few holes in the frame and cross member and your almost done..Enjoy and Good luck.... Salt-shaker

One last thought, I used Hooker headers designed for a later model truck and they worked with my C6, I can get the numbers if your interested in using that brand.

Hi 70shortwide, I had to look through paperwork to find sales tag but located it and the Hooker number was 6811 super competition units and I did NO modifications to any cross members or transmission mount cross member. These also fit with power steering box and a C6 trans. The only mods to the headers was to tig weld the upper flange/port area to allow extra material for a report for the larger C.J. heads exhaust. My purchase was made in 1988 and I don't know if they are still available.

I looked at those... I thought that they would end UNDER the crossmember? mine must go above the crossmember. just for clarity sake do these hang down below the crossmember or tuck in above it?

Good-morning, The Hookers pass over the bolt in cross member ( located under bell housing ) then make a S and end almost center line under the transmission cross member. I feel they fit snug ( unlike most Hooker headers ) and don't show obtrusive from a side profile..I forget to say the they will not fit a Bendix power steering box but fit the Ford unit nicely. I believe these were designed for the bumpside trucks and I used the engine mounts from this same vintage during my installations. I'm just presenting this info in a effort to help others as to what worked for me..Good luck..
