O/T Ranger 302 swap exhaust questions

Post by averagef250 »

I'm trying to fix a friends 302 swapped 84 Ranger. I don't think the PO was very bright and the homebrew engine mounts are scary so I offered to fix them. The engine has 80's EFI car exhaust manifolds on it and the driver's side hits the steering shaft while the passenger side necesitated a big chunk of the frame rail getting notched out (scary). The manifolds on it both sit rather low with a very low, rear exit/flange.

I'm wanting to find some different manifolds that dump more like straight out the back. Does anyone know what manifolds work for a ranger 302 swap or what 302 manifolds might get me where I need to be? The passenger manifold is the most important. I can (and want to) move the engine a bit to the passenger side if the passenger exhaust manifold didn't shoot straight down and sit so low.

Thanks for any help!

Seems like I seen something in Summit catalog years ago. They had exhaust manifolds for the swap. Might want to check there.

Acording to this:

http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_li ... sions.html

"Early to mid 70's exhaust manifolds will have to be used. They're short and provide room to clear the frame rail."

Not that it helps much but in high school I knew a guy with a courier and a 289 swap. He turnd the manifolds over so the outlets pointed forward and ran the exhaust in front of the engine...

You may also look into using 5.0l manifolds from an explorer.
