Hey gang,
My truck has been apart for the last two years and when it last ran with the old 302 setup my C6 was leaking at the front. The truck was originally a 3 on the tree but I swapped it out for the c6. I had gotten the c6 from the junk yard and replaced the rear seal and put a valve body and new modulator on it but never touched the front seal. Is the front seal something that the average mechanically inclined can replace and is there anything else that would cause it to leak in the front?

Ive never changed one. i was told when mine went that it can be done at home by someone somewhat inclined. also, ive been told that overevving your motor will cause the front seal to fail. (pretty sure this is what happened to mine) or sitting for long periods and the seal dries out. (possibly what happened with your tranny)

the front seal isnt all that hard to replace. its the onyl thing that should normally leak on the front on the trans.

It's easy. The hardest part is getting the torque converter fully seated back in the pump. Make sure you check the snout of the converter for a groove, worn in by a hard front seal.

I never got my topic notification email LOL. Anyway the torque converter is brand new. I am pretty sure the seal is just dried out from sitting because the back seal was all hard when I replaced it. Is the front seal just a matter of popping the old one out and a new one in or do you have to pull the pump to do it or should I pull the pump anyway and see about putting a new bushing in it also? If I have to pull the pump what all is involved? I tried searching the net for steps on how to do it but didn't find anything and I don't have a manual.

You do not need to pull the pump. I always pack the back side of the seal with TransJel or vaseline before installing to prevent the tension spring from popping out. Just make sure the converter is fully seated before you try to mate the trans to the engine.
