well i have the 429/4 spd combo in my truck..... you will need a bellhousing from a 460 or 351m/400, i am using the 400 bell. you will need the flywheel, press. plate, clutch.... i am using a flywheel and clutch kit from a 360 and it works great so far, also you will need to put a pilot bearing into your crankshaft. i found this out the hard way, but there are two different size pilot bearings that fit into the crankshaft. the 1st one i had fit flush to the end of the crank and it worked with the 3 spd trans i had in it, but when i put the 4 spd, (np 435) i had to change the pilot bearing to a smaller diameter that fit into the crankshaft about a half inch, ( into the second step of the crank)... it was to a ford 400 with a manual trans... hope this helps... this is what i have done it the last few weeks..... you will also need the clutch linkage and pedal assy...... i am sure others will chime in... if you have anymore questions i will try to help...... :2cents:

Be ready if you use that tranny, if it hasnt been modified with a different 1st gear and cluster, its only a 2.32:1 1st gear.

That can be a little miserable unless you have a deep gear in the rear.

The 460 will make up for it some, but it really helps to convert it to wide ratio

Can you do that to a big shaft TL?

Yes, David Kee and a few others sell wide ratio kits for the big in/out.

Its a very good move if you are going to drive the thing. I hated my big/in out close ratio in my Mustang, it was a 428CJ/Boss 9 tranny too. 1st was too tall, and if you put some gear in the rear, 4th screamed bloody murder.

Wide ratio makes a much nicer spread for a big block
