Power Steering squeel?

Post by 1970f100x »

When I turn my wheel all the way to the right or left, it makes a belt squeel. How should I fix this, or is there no way?

Don't hold it in the "lock" position. In other words, when it is all the way to one side and you feel it stop, back off just a little. You won't notice the difference in turning radius and it'll save your pump. Never hold it all the way in the locked position.

Start by checking the fluid level, it may need more PSF. Hopefully the bearings aren't starting to sieze. The belt might squeel it the pulley is no longer spinning freely.

Also once they develope a glaze on the pulley side replacement is usually the better choice. In the dealership we would sometimes put a light coat of wheel bearing grease in the pulley grooves to quiten some squeals.
